PEMERINTAH ACEH

1. Sharia Law is derived from religious teachings of Al-Qur'an and Sunnah. It contains the teachings of Islam that deal with man's relationship with God, relationships with fellow Human-Beings and human relationships with the Natural World.
2. The main substance of the Sharia Law is Peace. Islam is to bring Peace and Welfare to the entire Universe (Rahmatan lil ' Alamin). Muslims believe that the teachings of Islam would attain Salvation and Happiness in the World and the Here-after.
3. Aceh is the only province that has special previleges and wide-range of autonomy to govern it self within Indonesia. The special previleges on education, culture, religion and the role of Ulamas are stated in the Article Law 44 (Year 1999); In addition to that, after the Peace Agreement between Free Aceh Movement and the Government of Indonesia, Aceh is allowed to implement LOGA (Law on Governing Aceh) also known as the law for Self-Government for Aceh (Article Law. 11, 2006).
4. One of the legal rights granted to Aceh within LOGA is the implementation of Shariah Law in all dimensions of the day-to-day life of Acehnese society. Sharia Law is to cover the way the Acehnese Worship, family law (ahwal syakhsiyah), civil law (mu'amalat), criminal law (jinayah) , justice (qadha), education, (tarbiyah) preaching (dakwah), and the defense of Islam in Aceh as stipulated in the Article 125 of Law No. 11 of 2006.
5. The implementation of Shariah law in the life of Acehnese people is within the national legal system in the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) as mentioned in Article 128 of Law No. 11 of 2006.
6. The Government of Aceh in coordination with the House of Representatives of Aceh (DPRA) is to create Regulation (Qanun) on Shariah Law. The regulation is the same as the Local Regulation in other provinces in Indonesia, except that in certain cases can differ because of Special Privilages given to Aceh and the way Aceh is authorized to implement Shariah law.
7. Shariah law in Aceh regulated by Qanun not only to regulate the Criminal Law, but the Shariah Law is also to regulate issues on economic, trade, banking, social life and even politics issues.
8. Sharia law in Aceh is ONLY intended for every Muslim resided in Aceh, and DOES NOT apply to non-Muslims. For the non-Muslims who wants to follow Shariah Law, he or she will be accepted.
9. Shariah Law Qanun IS NOT only be implemented in the criminal aspects (jinayah), but also in economics like Zakat, Wakaf , Infaq, Education, and others.
10. The implementation of Sharia Law in Aceh is to adhered to the standard rule of Human Rights; and Islam upholds Human Rights values.
11. Aceh Government guarantees religious freedom, harmony between religious communities in Aceh, and do not discriminate against any religion. Prophet Muhammad SAW has given example of diversity and religious harmony in the State in Madinah 14 centuries ago by the implementation of Medina Charter. Jewish community, Christians, Qibthi, Fire Worshippers and various other beliefs co-existed and they carry out their religious laws under the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The Acehnese People will follow the sample of Prophet Muhammad SAW practices.
